Olexiy Mykolayovych Beketov (1862-1941), Ukrainian soviet architect and educator, professor, academician of St. Petersburg’s Imperial Academy of Arts, a member of USSR Architecture Academy, Honored artist of Ukrainian SSR, one of the founders of Soviet Architects Union of Ukrainian SSR.
Beketov O.M. was born March 3, 1862 in a family of chemist scientist, professor of Kharkiv University M.M. Beketov. In 1882 graduated from Kharkiv Technical School. In 1888 graduated with honors from St. Petersburg’s Academy of Arts. From 1892 to 1911 Beketov was a delegate of 5 congresses of Russian architects in St. Petersburg and Moscow. In 1894 St. Petersburg’s Academy of Arts gave him the degree of architecture academician for the project "Public libraries of 2 million volumes". Since 1889 taught at Kharkiv Institute of Technology, Kharkiv Institute of engineering and building, Kharkiv Institute of Municipal Economy. Until 1917 worked in his own design bureau. From 1919 to 1926 led the project department of civil buildings of trust "Donvuhillya", collaborated with "Derzhprokont", "Ukrtsyvilbudproekt". In 1939 was elected a member of USSR Architecture Academy. In 1941 was given an honorary title "Honoured Architect of USSR ". Died November 23, 1941 in Kharkiv.
Beketov O.M. is an author of about 70 architectural projects in neorenaissance, neoclassical, modern, neorussian styles; 40 of these projects were intended for Kharkiv. Taught lectures on architectural design, drawings, building art, history of architecture. One of the first in pedagogical practice has introduced systematic study of architectural forms and styles.

Project’s fragment of monument to V.N. Karazin in Kharkiv (photo). Beketov's textbook "Architecture. Lectures, taught at Kharkiv Institute of Technology (with 230 photos and drawings)" (1909). Autobiography, list of Beketov’s projects, documents about his work in Ukrainian Committee of state buildings and Ukrainian radnarhosp, Soviet Architects Union of Ukrainian SSR, publishing of USSR Architecture Academy, Kharkiv Institute of engineering and building; business correspondence. Documents collected by Beketov for work: competitions documents, decisions, directives, plans of publishings .
